Quick update

Here is a quick look at a rough paint of the sketch i just did

starting a new sketch

So, just to get myself going, i started to line a sketch that i drew a week ago in the scad sketchbooks that we got!

Over break. . . .

So, my plan over break is to sketch out as much as I can so that I dont waste time trying to concept on the computer. I'd rather have a sketch ready, and upload the picture to the computer and go from there. So over break I'm going to give myself the goal of 3-4 sketches over the break to give myself a working momentum.
For the storybook, I plan to work hard and have my mom look over the story and fix any errors and hopefully have the written part of the book DONE!
Hopefully with what I'm going to do over break, itll boost me up in the class and Ill be able to post more!

So here is my fisheye city and I tried to go for like a night time glow but it didnt really work out well

Update on everything

So here is the basic line art for my fish eye project and I am creating a city.

So I'm going to finish my hannya mask and color the flowers ad maybe play around witht he color of the mask from red to maybe grey and I wrote down the name of the certain mask and im excited about this one ,

Progress Today

So today, I continued to do line art and finished the part when Mako and Aura say goodbye and the outline of the submarine.

Story update

So for the story we have really been cranking stuff out lately and finished the rough draft of the story (like the plotline) and I finished my Screen for IB on the Story.

So today I finished inking my first page
I think tomorrow Im going to work more on the ocean backgrounds and maybe after I post this so I might not be able to post an snap of my ocean background if I do try and make some more.

Update on story book

So today I worked on the story book and i started some ocean background pages and I started inking out the characters for kaylin.

Im having a lot of trouble with the ocean backgrounds right now. I cant get how to blend things out and how to create the white highlight marks.

 So here is my (almost finished) inking. I just need to erase some of the stray marks and we'll be good!

And here is the original picture. I still need to ink the other person and Ill be done with this page.

So today I started coloring my hannya mask and I'm having a lot of trouble with shading at the moment in sketchbook and im contemplating switching to photoshop to shade it and blend the colors and shadows of the mask together

So, today I was working more on my hannya mask and lining it out darker and starting to color it. Also I started to draw some flowers around the mask to add some beauty to the scary.

So today I worked on my third process screen and on that screen i focused on my moms tattoo design with a tiger and some lotus flowers. I think this is going to be really easy and I should be done with it in about 2 days.

so today i started my perspective project and i settled on making a city.
Im creating a city inside of a circle and Im maybe thinking about having it reflect off of some sort of water. Eh we'll see.

I dont know if you can tell, but I felt like the flowers were a little light so I tried to make them a little bit darker so they can pop more against the skin.

And so now im starting a new project at the same time. I am going to be drawing a Japanese Hannya mask. I feel like this wont be as hard and will be finished really quickly while I finish my other project.

More ideas for future projects in general

One thing that Ive been really interested in for years is the asian tattoos like dragons or the Oni is like the masks so maybe for future projects I could try to change my style to the tattoo type of style



 

Tattoo update

So for my tattoos idea, I found out from my grandpa that dragons and tigers are supposed to symbolize higher beings and kings but the dragon is higher up than the tiger. Thats why all of the Yakuza or gangsters in asia have dragons tattooed on themselves rather than a dragon. I dont know if anyone actually reads these, but my grandpa, back in korea, was kind of like a good gangster in a way? All of the gangs back in the day wanted to fight my grandpa because when he was younger, he was this martial arts master and a Grand Master of Judo. And its almost like an old school mafia movie (maybe not mafia but gangster movie?) because people would hire my grandpa to protect them, like one of the politicians that is running for president in korea was one of my grandpas underlings and oh my gosh I think its so cool!
And my grandpa was one of the really sporty jocky guys that excelled in every sport and he even taught at the korean police academy for combat and judo because the korean police usually use judo or train judo. I also think its so cool because a lot of my grandpas underlings are really famous important people today. I cant believe my sweet grandpa was like a gangster back in the day.
 Like guys would fight my grandpa with knives and crowbars and he recently told me his whole story and it really makes me want to create something to i dont know, symbolize of pay homage to his whole life and how hard it was and eventful.
Haha watch, I'm telling this whole story and no ones going to read it. Eh its fine I guess.
But i want to have a mix between the korean flag and a dragon because obviously my grandpa loves his home country and in a way hes like a dragon. He was the leader of his group and a dragon in his groups eyes and in my eyes also.

More inspiration for tattoos

So in the last update, I was talking about designing a tattoo for my mom and my grandpa. My mom generally wants more girls stuff like flowers or a cherry blossom branch while my grandpa wants the real traditional type of Korean tiger or dragon design. Some cool examples of designs I found were:




I noticed that the dragons have really crazy looking eyes and almost always have their mouth open. I think before I really start with anything else I'm going to research about the importance of the Korean dragon and the tiger and if they have a relationship because I feel like or I've heard that they do.

inspiration for a new project

So Im thinking about some new projects I could do and I'm thinking about maybe doing a halloweeny type of theme like a monster or something or maybe something related to the korean culture because I'm trying to design a tattoo for my grandpa and my mom! So maybe i can do some cultural digging and create an awesome korean art inspired tattoo.

 Monsters:

PRETA

Pretas are beings unique to Eastern religions like Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sikhism. While Western culture does have a tradition of spirits of the dead being punished for their sins in ironic ways, they don’t have anything on Pretas. Those who are greedy or jealous in life can become cursed by karma and returned to the world of the living, which doesn’t sound so bad, except they become filled with a constant, aching hunger and unquenchable thirst.

No matter how much they eat or drink, Pretas are never satisfied. Either they have trouble finding food or drink, or they are unable to consume it when they do, as Pretas are often depicted as emaciated corpses with tiny mouths or impossibly thin necks. And, if all that weren’t bad enough, the thing for which they hunger is typically something embarrassing, such as human waste.

So, today I finished doing the line art for my flowers and I think they look pretty good. Tomorrow I will be coloring the flowers and hopefully finish the flowers and my project. Oh and I also forgot to add a headshot for my face because i altered it and added an underlying layer with a galaxy to make her look for psychedelic.

Some of the color for the flowers is really light so it looks like empty space, but trust me, theyre there.

So today I was working on my flowers and I think its going pretty good! So first i got am image from google and changed to opacity to allow myself to draw on top of it in a different layer to create the flowers.
