So here is the two final products. The first one is before I outlined and the second is when I outline the very outer part of her. I didn't want to outline every single thing because I didn't want it to have that outlined cartoony feel. I also feel like I should add something else but I'm not really sure what would complete the piece.
Another Update
So, here I've gone through and done the clothes and the little minor details like the flowers. I think its coming along very well!
So, here is the beginning stages of my water color piece. I decided to use pinks, purples and blues for the main color scheme. Looking at it, I did make some mistakes with the shading and over shading of the face, but I feel like each time I get better at using water color! I really like the neck shading and the hair shading. I thought the hair was especially fun.
Another final project idea
So, this is kinda late, but I have another idea! It's something really small that I think I can finish in one class period. I want to create a water color kisaeng for my grandma. It will be a small scale thing, I want to use a colorful watercolor background that goes against a black border to make it look like a tricked out old time picture.

Rough Rough Rough Sketch
So here is a very basic and rough ugly sketch but I'm kind of still debating on what to do with this and how to continue because I'm slightly stumped so I might just go back into alchemy and see what else I can add to this.
Playing in Alchemy
Here is a new concept robot that I am going to work on and it might not turn into a robot but I do see a robo-cop type of thing here.

a sad update
So, once again, we ran out of tablets and I was unable to draw anything in photoshop so I had to draw physically and hopefully on another day when we have tablets I'll be able to trace it in photoshop. Which will take up a good amount of time, but I guess thats what I have to do because all of the tablets are used.

update
So today I planned out the other two geisha pieces but I ran out of time to snap a picture of both so I will post a picture of them next time!

First sketch
Here is the first rough sketch of the first geisha in the series. I gave her a more relaxed look having less hairpins and having her hair free from its confines so I can emulate the lack of free spirit the women had and how much of a stress like would have been mentally for them in the edo day and age being seen as objects instead of women seeking an higher form of art through dance and song.
While I was absent. . . .
So, while I was absent and slightly puking my guts out, I did do some sketching and although I forgot my sketch book at home, I plan to make outlines of some of the pieces I plan to do. I plan to expand my initial plan for my artist comparison and create 3 art noveau pieces and 3 uki'iyo pieces. All kind of related in facial structure and style (my own) but different in the smaller details of what theyre wearing as well as their facial structure.

Starting a new piece
Today i sketched out a Kisaeng which is the korean version of a geisha and plan to paint her out with watercolor and acrylic for my grandma. I will post a picture of my sketch later but I think everything is going quite well! I really like my sketch and i just need to figure out the patterning of her dress as well as how to paint her hair, because I don't want it to look like a giant blob. For the clothes i am kind of thinking of using a fancy nice looking oragami paper and glue it on to give the piece another layer of dimension.

Here is my second screen for October. This is about a combo piece I'm working on for my artist comparison.

Future plans with comparison. . .
For my future plans, I plan to create 3 pieces inspired by my artist comparison. The first will be inspired by the Art Nouveau style. The second will be inspired by the Japanese Ukiyo-e style and the third will be a combination of the two. I'm thinking of making it a geisha with an Art Nouveau inspired floral background with peonies maybe some lilies and i think adding some camellias would be pretty too. I think I would give the geisha all of the traditional geisha qualities but maybe have her hair be semi down to utilize the art nouveau hair style and definentally blend and make her makeup more exaggerated.
Names of potential artists
Just a quick note of artists to compare:
- Alphonse Mucha
- Katsushika Hokusai
- Kitagawa Utamaro
- Aubrey Beardsley
- Gustav Klimnt
- Torii Kiyonaga
- hashiguchi goyo
Update on my monster piece
I have finished my monster piece for the quarter and I love it!
Here is the process I went through with it. . . .
Here is the process I went through with it. . . .
October screen 1
For my October screen I am focusing on my artist comparison. I am going to explore the comparison between Art Nouveau and the Ukiyo-e style of Japanese traditional art.
I have yet to write my schpeel about it but I plan to do that right now! I also wanted to add that I really like the idea of comparing the western and eastern types of art because I feel like they do connect in small ways and from those small similarities you can find a deeper appreciation for the art itself because it's almost like all art connects in a way.

Update picture of my monster
I decided to make my monster girl a little bit more of a zombie because I accidentally marked the skin with a dark color and I found that I really like it! So, I'm going to run with it and make her all bruised and sickly looking while still looking cute. . . .
almost finished
So i am almost finished with my first piece that I made with the intention of finishing it in October, but I realized that that might be a little bit dragged and would not be the best idea.

Laser cutter
So I completed a laser cutter project recently and I cut out the silhouette of a Totoro. I chose to cut out totoro because he has a very recognizable figure and I thought it would be easy to cut him out. I left him at home so I will post a picture very soon.

For the future
For the future I want to try and make a laser cut project or two and expand my drawing skills and try to create some bodies and improve my skills in creating different poses and body types as well.

upcoming screens
So I think for my may screens I am going to do artists comparisons between art noveau and maybe manga artists and compare and contrast the two because they kind of look similiar in some ways
About my screen
So i posted my first april screen and I think for my next screen as well as the one I just did, I just did a recap of how I created the piece and talked a little about the art show and my inspirations for the piece

the art show. . .
So I think the artshow went very well because I had all of my pieces set up and I enjoyed it a lot because a lot of people were walking around and asking me questions and were liking my pieces!

update
so here is the dress main coloring. I just need to line it and color the sashes and the dress will be done. It was kind of a stuggle to find complementing colors that would work well together and also a design for the dress
